Sampling
Sampling procedures can affect the value of analytical results. Customers are advised to use appropriate sampling protocol to insure samples are truly representative of the bulk sample.

For detailed feed and forage sampling information, please visit the National Forage Testing Association (http://www.foragetesting.org) website's Forage Sampling section.  Weld Labs rents hay probes for a nominal fee.

For sampling soils, again a probe is recommended. However, not having a probe is not as crucial as when sampling hay. To use a spade, drive the blade into the ground at a slight angle.  Remove the spade of soil and break away the material on the edges of the spade, leaving a narrow (< 2 inches wide) strip of soil from the surface to a depth of 6-12".  Repeat this process approximately 20 times throughout the area of interest (field, yard, etc.).  After thoroughly mixing the samples, remove a sample of about one pound to send to the lab. Weld Labs rents soil probes for a nominal fee.

For sampling water from a well, customers are advised to follow EPA guidelines to insure proper sampling protocol.
